‘The stage is in the open. The lighting was wonderful especially as it got dark later on in the evening. The performers are top rate and the costumes are stunning’

‘Have seen many performances at Tolethorpe over the years and Merchant of Venice didn’t disappoint. Good acting, lovely costumes and a wonderful setting all made perfect by the sunny warm weather. Here’s to many more excellent performances’

‘Beautifully dressed in silvery gowns at the start and end of the play, in this scene she’s disguised as Balthasar, a young and learned lawyer. Pointing out that Shylock can take the pound of flesh but not one drop of blood, she brilliantly upsets his designs and then gradually strips him of his wealth’
