Held at Tolethorpe Hall, in preparation for the first Tolethorpe Clothing Sale, November 2022

Workshop lead by Miriam Spring Davies in collaboration with communications consultant, Tiffany Arntson and Tara Coulson, head of fashion at Stamford College

The Challenge

The Difference Between Fashion and Personal Style. Drawing parallels between Costume, Fashion and Style. The confidence it can give you in being who you want to be and portraying what you want to portray. In pairs.

1. A styling challenge without rules, discard all conventional rules for how things should be worn.
2. Raid the Tolethorpe Clothing Sale rails, see what catches your eye before your brain starts processing it. Step outside your comfort zone…
3. Build the look, see how it makes you feel, add, take away, edit, go back to the rails. Be creative, but don’t overthink it!
4. Tell us how your outfit make you feel, and why is that interesting to you. Have you chosen something that’s has surprised you…?

I like it, it’s not something I’d usually wear, but I really like it. I like the jacket, I like the top, I like the skirt and the shoes, I like it all together. It’s not something I’d put together usually but I think it looks really cool.

She wanted a Princess dress she could run around in. We wanted it to have an edgy look…

I want to wear it out. I feel amazing in it, I feel so good, I literally feel like a Princess. Princess Badass.
You can put different concepts together in a completely different way. Bold.
I feel bloody awesome. I would wear it out.
